Content in your WordPress and Joomla Templates

Before tonight if you had very much content at all in your Joomla and WordPress templates, the text would just flow out of your design. I was wondering why I was getting so many people trying to use the Expanding Theme techniques. Tonight I added a CSS 'overflow: auto;' to WordPress and Joomla content layers. So now when your stories and articles get longer than the space you designed, you'll get a nice scrollbar and your template will stay in tact.

DrupalCamp LA 2009!

I'm at the keynote address for DrupalCamp LA 2009. The UC Irvine campus is beautiful. Waiting for the keynote to begin. Can you tell I'm used to writing things in less than 140 characters?

There seem to be a fair number of schedule openings available. Maybe I'll present today or tomorrow.

Horizontal Repeating Background

We've had the _bodybg Layer Naming Convetion for quite a while now. That feature will make an image or pattern repeat across the background of your web page vertically and horizontally - it fills the page. But sometimes you only want just the top of the page to repeat. Only horizontally across the page, but not vertically. Now you can do that with the new _bodybg-rx feature. It's body background repeat x. It's a common design element in current web design.

Tutorial 47: iPhone Web Pages

Have you noticed how regular web pages look so small on the iPhone? By default the Safari browser shows you the whole web page which is supposed to be a LOT bigger than the iPhone display. But some sites have great 'mobile' versions of their site that fit and behave perfectly on the iPhone.

Now instead of learning all the javascript and browser detection scripting required to do that, you can just use psd2css Online and have your iPhone web app design coded and working in seconds.

SV NewTech and Ustream

Last night I was honored that Vinnie Lauria, the guy who runs the Silicon Valley NewTech Meetup, was good enough to give me a spot at the meetup to present psd2css Online. The SVNewTech meetup is a fantastic group of Silicon Valley insiders who meet to see new products, to network, and get involved with one another's efforts. The people are great and I highly recommend that you take in a meetup there if you can - but sign up early, the meetings tend to fill up quickly.
